3 examples of creative work you’ve done
This can be anything – such as a graphic design, hand-drawn illustration, a piece of writing or even a website you’ve built for fun. ‘Creative work’ knows no boundaries, so think of three pieces that showcase your creativity and make you feel proud as a creator.
300 words on how creativity impacts everyday life
From supermarket shelves to TV shows, explain how you see creativity affecting the day-to-day.
300 words on you
Why do you want to work in the creative world? What drives you? What experience do you have? What are your hobbies? We don’t need to know everything, but giving us a summary will help us see if you’re a right fit for our academy.
Your details
Finally, don’t forget to include the important stuff – your name and contact number.
“How does it work?”
When you become a Starbots Academy student we first spend time finding out where your creative passion lies. Then, we create a tailored plan that helps you get the industry experience and workplace skills you need.
You’ll be given scenario-based briefs with detailed feedback, experience in a commercial studio, plus support in developing an employability plan. This will include portfolio reviews and development, professional skills guidance, results-driven projects for CV-building and mock interview practice.
“Who can apply?”
If you’re ready to learn, develop your creative skills, and want to take that next step into the world of creative careers, we want to hear from you.
You need to be based in Staffordshire too – so you can easily travel to our studio in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
“Is this an internship?”
No! It’s better. This isn’t about giving you our client work and asking you to fulfil it. This training scheme includes scenario-based projects that aren’t live – allowing you to push creative boundaries, freely explore your learning – and have fun.
Over the years, we’ve seen trainees grow in confidence this way. And, what’s great is you end up with fantastic commercial examples for your portfolio – that you can use to help you get a creative job.

“Helping aspiring creatives to get real industry experience has always been important to me. Starting the business solo from the ground up nearly 12 years ago, I know what it’s like to be looking for that first break.
“The Starbots Academy fits so closely with our values. Education and youth development are areas that we’re really passionate about – not just in terms of supporting young individuals in our local community, but also when it comes to the clients and causes we work with and for.”

Charlotte
“It was really good to have the chance to work in a real studio environment and get feedback from people within the industry, alongside my studies. It was a great opportunity to add experience from a professional setting to my CV. I found it so helpful as a key talking point in job applications. And all the team wanted to know how I was doing afterwards, which was so supportive and encouraging.
“I was so excited when a vacancy in Starbots’ Design team came up not long after I graduated. I felt confident enough in my portfolio and commercial awareness to apply for it and was delighted to be appointed.”

Ruby

It’s been a fantastic opportunity to work in a creative studio environment, surrounded by such a warm and welcoming team.”
“I’ve gained a lot more confidence and developed my technical skills in Adobe Creative Suite, practising on a scope of projects including social media and print. I’m excited to finish my final year of graphic design at university and pursue my dream career in the creative industry.”
